Election 2024

“Let me tell you this. Whenever anybody starts telling you that they’re worried about our democracy or protect democracy, or they’ve got democracy in their name, those are not friends of ours.” —Cleta Mitchell, lawyer for Donald Trump who helped him try to subvert election results in Georgia in 2020, speaking to a recent RNC donor retreat, as quoted by Lauren Windsor (audio promised to come)

So who to vote for ?

1) Trump, a Russian backed, low character, prolific liar, adjudicated felon, convicted sex offender, failed business man, twice impeached, attempted overthrow of the government, election denier, admires authoritarians, wants mass deportations, would use DOJ for retribution, turns a blind eye to violence, could make the next election the last, make it hard to vote, thinks heavy tariffs are a good idea (economists don’t), opposed by former advisors, would like to be dictator, enthusiastically supported by evangelicals. He is a national embarrassment. If he is the best the GOP has to offer, how good is the rest of the party ?

2) The other party that would improve border process, healthcare, social security, forgive college debt, rebuild infrastructure, make voting easier ...

Tough choice ?

Insurrectionists

Attempting overthrow of the government is a crime. The 1/6 hearings exposed an elaborate, well planned plot that not only mounted an assault on the Capital, decapitated the DOJ, in several States sent fraudulent electors, went to court in many States to claim election fraud and lost every one, got lawyers involved disbarred, obstructed justice, witness tampering, threatened election workers, threatened to hang the Vice President, killed several people in the capital assault.

Trump violated emoluments requirements, nepotism, and his oath of office. He was the leader of a violent mass movement that stormed the capital on 1/6 leaving 5 people dead.
(see The Face of American Insurrection: Right-Wing Organizations Evolving into a Violent Mass Movement [Updated July 2022] )

He has been impeached twice, will be in Court in Georgia, in Court in the SDNY, and many others.

So far not a single witness in the hearings has defended him. Almost all his people won't talk for fear of violent intimidation, so there can be no oversight, transparency, and no functioning checks and balances.

Aside from all that, he admired Putin, who helped elect him, and could credibly be an agent. So far, there has been no clear explanation why he walked off with highly classified documents. That too may be a crime.

He is refusing a subpoena to testify.

Many in Congress were complicit. See this Congressional Report Card.
